TrophyICON Take the Challenge »

1. Purpose: Provide an incentive to each club member to define his/her own ride around Texas, and beyond, at the level of personal challenge suitable to the member and an opportunity to earn an award commensurate with his/her success.

2. Theme: As Choice implies the rider is encouraged to choose the states, cities, destinations, events and roads of interest from over 400 opportunities provided by the 2011 ride committee.  Each rider participant challenges himself/herself to ride around Texas, and beyond, to as many of these Texas and other destinations as he/she desires.  Destinations range from those of historical significance, to dubious significance to quirky and most involve food.

3. Eligibility: Any BMWDFW member in good standing is eligible to participate in the ride.

4. Contest Duration: Contest begins Feb 9, 2011 (day after Feb club meeting), and ends October 1, 2010.

5. Entry:
5.1 There is no entry fee.
5.2 Registration does not obligate the member to discover any predetermined number of States, Destinations or Destination Bonus Locations (Hereinafter referred to as Destinations unless otherwise noted) or Extra Points.  These numerical goals are challenges set by each entrant for himself/herself.
5.3 Members shall enter by registering in one of two ways.
5.3.1 Method 1: Sign Up on the Club Website as an Entrant with your Name and Starting Date.  Go to http://www.bmwdfw.org and from the top menu click Contests > Individual Challenge Ride Entry Form
5.3.2 Method 2: Provide your Name and Starting Date in an email to Vince Breckner at vbreck1@gmail.com.  This can be done anytime before the contest end date of Oct. 1, 2011.

6. “Discovering” a Destination
6.1. A Destination is discovered by riding to the destination, taking a photograph that includes either the motorcycle ridden or the participating member and an indisputable image indicating you were there.  This image may be a sign or the destination item itself (see list).  Examples of valid signs are state boundary signs, city limit signs, police station signs and post office signs.  In a very few cases the destination may not have a sign in which case the destination itself should be in the photo.  This will be clear upon arrival.  The photo must contain an electronic date stamp containing the year and day of the year the photo was taken.  It is NOT required the data/time stamp be in the photo itself.  It can be found in the photo digital data (Properties) that is recorded with each digital photo in modern digital cameras.  If using a film camera the film processing receipt should be submitted with your verification package at the close of the contest.
6.2. A Destination can only be “discovered” when traveling on a BMW motorcycle during the contest period. If traveling in or on any other vehicle a photo taken of an otherwise valid Destination is an invalid photo for purposes of this contest.
6.3 If entrant visits a state, destination or destination bonus location more than once he/she may “discover” it only once.  This means an entrant is awarded state, destination or bonus location destination points only once.

7. Valid Destinations are provided to the entrants.  Valid states, destinations and destination bonus locations are only those listed on the 2011 ICR List developed by the ride 2011 committee and provided as a separate downloadable and printable document on the ICR Contest page of the BMWDFW website.  Go to http://www.bmwdfw.org and from the top menu go to Contests > Individual Challenge Ride List

8. Submission of Contest Records
8.1. Contest Records Required to be Submitted:  1 set of photos of discovered states, destinations and destination bonus locations on the ICR worksheet shall be submitted to the 2011 Ride Committee.  If you used a digital camera the photos shall be on magnetic media and each photo shall be titled with the name of the state, destination or destination bonus location discovered as identified on the 2011 ICR List.  If you used a film camera, then hard copy prints are acceptable. Write the name of the state, destination or destination bonus location in the margin or on the back of each print.
8.2. Submission Location and Deadline:  All magnetic media or hard copy prints must be submitted to Vince Breckner at vbreck1@gmail.com by Oct. 15th.  Submissions may also be given to Ride Committee members Stephen Slisz or Sture Lindgren.

9. Contest Judging: The 2011 Ride Committee led by Vince Breckner is responsible for judging the entries for correctness and compliance and determining the winner.  Decisions of the Judging Committee are final.

10. Winning Criteria:
10.1 Each state, destination and destination bonus location is assigned a point value.  The member accumulating the most points as defined in the 2011 ICR List and confirmed by the judging committee is the overall contest winner.
10.2 In the case of a tie the winner will be determined by dividing the total number of verified points discovered by the total number of verified destinations discovered (NOT destination bonus locations).  The person with the highest value of this numerical ratio is the winner.
10.3 Recognition awards will also be given to the second and third place runners up.  In addition, a recognition award for the most efficient planning will be given.  This award will be determined by dividing the Total ICR points by the number of destinations visited.  The highest point value per destination wins.

11. Awards and Acknowledgement:
11.1. Winner will receive an award at the Annual Awards Banquet, a prize to be disclosed at the Annual Awards Banquet, one year free membership in the BMWDFW motorcycle club and the winner and winner’s captured cities list will be featured on the club website after the Annual Awards Banquet.
11.2. All participants and the number of cities each captured will be acknowledged at the Annual Awards Banquet and that information will be posted on the club website after the Annual Awards Banquet for further recognition.
11.3 Further recognition of the participants and Recognition Award winners will be made at the January, 2012 Club Meeting with a recap of the accomplishments and presentation of the awards.
